Aspire, Learn, Mentor, Achieve (ALMA) Science Academy

Mission: ALMA at UCLA is a community service project that aims to expose youths from underrepresented communities to STEM education via hands-on projects and activities, interactive presentations, mentoring, and educational field trips. ALMA is committed towards creating bridges to achieve higher education and nurture our scholars' curiosity in STEM in order to address the low percentage of Latinx professionals in STEM careers. Through our work in the community, we are invested in youths and providing resources to their communities. ALMA Science Academy serves as an educational pipeline program for approximately 80 elementary students that are exposed to biology and engineering at an early age. Part of our involvement encompasses, mentoring elementary, middle, and high school students that are part of the youth educational programs.

We are partnered with Madison Park Neighborhood Association (MPNA)- Getting Residents Engaged in Exercise and Nutrition (GREEN) in Santa Ana, CA. We attend ALMA Science Academy in Santa Ana, California to provide mentorship for our 21 week science program. In Saturday Science Academy , we engage with youths in our different youth educational programs: ALMA Saturday Science Academy, Junior High Scholars Program, and High School Scholars Program. Throughout the year, we provide mentorship to our scholars and plan educational field trips to medical centers, as well as, executing fundraisers to provide our high school scholars with scholarships to support their journey in achieving higher education. Our project also hosts mentoring events for our members to get insight into medical school and PA school.
